K9 Nosework
Introduction to Nosework

Nose work is an activity and sport that is both fun for the dog and the handler.  This class introduces the sport of K9 Scent Work, builds handler observation skills, and timing of rewards.  No prerequisite skills are needed.  Boxes and food or toys are used to build on what  a dog already knows: how to use his nose to hunt.  Dogs work individually and are crated in class when they are not working.  Scent Work is a fun sport for all breeds of dogs.  The scents of birch, cypress, clove and anise are introduced in this class.

Ongoing Odor Recognition
This class builds on the skills learned in Introduction to Scent  Work.  Boxes and a wide variety of objects (toys, suitcases, totes ) are used to strengthen each dog's hunting abilities and the handler's ability to read their dog.  All four scents - birch, cypress, anise and clove or used in this class.  Interior searches, exterior, and vehicle searches are used.  These students will be going different places to search other areas, such as stores and parks.  These dogs should have advanced search skills and be good canine citizens when going into new search areas.
